The General Union of Charitable Societies held a specialized awareness seminar today at its headquarters on the scourge of drugs and ways to curb their spread, in cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics Department. The seminar was attended by the Vice President of the General Union and Head of the Amman Union, Attorney Dr. Barakat, the Head of the Jerash Union, Zaid Zaboun, and the Director General of the Union, Khalil Al-Qubaisi.
The President of the General Union of Charitable Societies, Amer Al-Khawaldeh, stated that organizing this seminar stems from the Union's social responsibility and its commitment to protecting young people, emphasizing that drugs pose a real threat to the present and future of society.
He pointed out that the Union works in partnership with official bodies and civil society organizations to implement awareness and educational programs targeting various groups, with the aim of raising awareness about the dangers of drugs and reducing their spread.
Al-Khawaldeh added that prevention begins within the family and school and requires concerted efforts to build a conscious generation capable of facing challenges. He stressed the importance of supporting purposeful youth initiatives and investing the energies of young people in positive directions.
The head of the Media and Awareness Department at the Anti-Narcotics Department, Lieutenant Colonel Nabil Al-Rawashdeh, reviewed the department's efforts to combat this scourge through a comprehensive system of security, awareness, and treatment measures implemented throughout the year.
Al-Rawashdeh emphasized the importance of raising community awareness, particularly among female employees in the public sector, as they are key partners in disseminating awareness messages and promoting a culture of prevention.
Participants affirmed that drugs pose a threat to community security due to their contribution to family disintegration, increased crime rates, and decreased productivity, in addition to serious health risks. He pointed to the pivotal role of the family in protecting children from addiction through continuous monitoring and fostering open communication, alongside the role of educational institutions in raising awareness and implementing educational programs.
The seminar addressed questions and inquiries about the reasons for drug use among youth, including weak religious faith, negative peer influence, idleness, psychological and economic pressures, and the impact of some social media platforms. It also reviewed prevention mechanisms, beginning with early awareness and the promotion of positive values.
At the conclusion of the seminar, examples of different types of drugs were presented, and the head of the General Union, Al-Khawaldeh, honored Lieutenant Colonel Al-Rawashdeh in recognition of his efforts in raising awareness about the dangers of drugs.
