The General Union of Charitable Societies commemorated the anniversary of the tragic Amman bombings of November 9, 2005, when treacherous hands of terrorism targeted the Jordanian capital, Amman, claiming the lives of dozens of innocent people and leaving a deep wound in the hearts of every Jordanian.
In a statement, the Union said that Jordanians stand on this day in remembrance and respect for the souls of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for security and stability. It affirmed that this anniversary represents an enduring national milestone, reminding everyone of the value of national unity and rallying around the wise Hashemite leadership under His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, which has thwarted all attempts to undermine Jordan's security and stability.
The head of the General Union of Charitable Societies, Amer Khawaldeh, stated that on this day every year, all Jordanians, leadership and people alike, stand in remembrance and tribute to the martyrs of the Amman terrorist bombings that occurred on November 9, 2005, targeting innocent lives in three of the capital's hotels during one of the darkest moments the nation has ever experienced.
He pointed out that terrorism attempted on that day to strike at the heart of Jordan, but failed to realize that this proud nation, with its people, leadership, and security forces, will remain steadfast in the face of all who seek to undermine its security and unity. He explained that Jordanians proved after those painful events that terrorism cannot diminish the will to live in this country, and that the true response to it lies in science, knowledge, and building an informed citizenry.
The Union commended the tremendous efforts exerted by the security services and the Jordanian Armed Forces – the Arab Army – in protecting the homeland and preserving its security, as well as the pioneering role of the national media in consolidating collective awareness and confronting hate speech and misinformation.
May God have mercy on the martyrs of the nation, and may God protect Jordan, its leadership and people, and keep its flag flying high with glory and faith.
